Perfect pétanque

I was in Bretagne for a wedding last weekend (some photos here and here, with more to follow soon), followed by a week in Les Ardennes where I was lucky enough to receive the lovely gift of some new boules…

After 4 games the balls are now bien marquées, meaning I won’t look like a complete arse the first time they see Paris sunshine!

Found out about this wonderful project by Stephen Crowe, another graphic designer who also lives in Paris, via Shakespeare & Co.

Stephen is attempting to illustrate Joyce’s Finnegans Wake, a book I once read, when I was a fine art foundation student, in order to impress a girl. Ashamed to say I do not remember too much of the book but these wonderful illustrations make it worth a revisit. See more here.

We are now in July of 1967 and the bright cover colours (cover design by Stephen Dwoskin, himself a very interesting individual, film director and founder of the London Film Co-op) are reflecting not just the future of rail but also the heady days of the Summer of Love…
