Trying to design the future

September 1967 and the cover is by Baker/Broom/Edwards, the only other reference I could find to this design consultancy was on the blog Existential Ennui, regarding a cover they had produced for Hodder & Staughton in 1968. Not much to spark my own interest in this month’s edition but still, a couple of pages caught my eye…

The advert for Artifort that uses La Maison de la Radio in Paris as an example of its success caught my eye, simply because I must go and see if it still resembles the photograph. The vision of the future, on the right, is by London Film Productions Ltd and is from a larger article on Trying to design the future

From an article on the relationship between design and marketing comes a series of success stories and failures, most notably Bic/Biro and Sainsburys/Tesco. On the right is branding for Coleshoes, which caught my eye – I think it manages to be both old-fashioned and yet would not look out of place in the modern market. What do you think?
