La semaine sanglante

Having often walked past what I had assumed to be yet another tourist trap, I was absolutely delighted to discover that the Musée de Montmartre is a wonderful experience. Not only is it housed in an authentic location that was home to many of Montmartre’s famous artists, it is also incredibly informative. It illustrates the local history with posters, photographs, stories and objects. One particular focus of the museum is the Paris uprising of 1871 in which Montmartre, being on a hilltop overlooking the city, played a major part. It is 140 years since the Paris Commune occurred and a free exhibition is now on at the Hôtel de Ville. While it is on my to do list, I have spotted these posters pasted to walls in Montmartre; whether they mark the actual locations I am not sure…
